What a great weekend at the Irish Wakeboard Nationals in Enniskillen. Despite the awful weather (rain and strong winds), it was a really tight Open Men final with everyone killing it. I’m so stoked to have managed to retain my Open Men title for the fifth year in a row. Congrats to Paul Johnston on taking 2nd and David Coates on 3rd. Well done to Sian Hurst on holding on to her Open Ladies title and big congrats to all the young groms who stepped up their game and are landing more inverts and spins than ever. Thanks also to all the organisers and sponsors and to Nils Kroon and Nicolas Subjobert for coming over to judge Here are some photos. Thanks, David

Comments Off on Wakeboarding Demos & Comp.

Hi all,

It’s been a busy week commuting between Drogheda and Dublin. The Irish Maritime Festival was held over three days in Drogheda and David Coates, Pete Stewart, Nicole Carroll and I did demos. Although the water was very choppy the weather was great and there were thousands of people there over the few days so it was brilliant to showcase the sport. On the Saturday I drove to Dublin to compete in the Pro division of Wakedock Grass Routes Tour. I’m not really a cable rider so I was stoked to take 2nd place. Irish team riders Aisling Deegan and Nicole Carroll took 1st and 2nd place at the comp. and both qualified for the Wakestock Rail Contest next month. Big congrats to them.

Just back from a great weekend doing demos at Belfast Maritime Festival in the Titanic Quarter. The weather wasn’t the best with a lot of wind but we managed to do the best we could. Other wakeboarders included Carro Djupso from Sweden, Loes Linders from The Netherlands, as well as fellow Irish team members, Paul Johnston, David Coates and Nicole Carroll. We had a lot of fun over the weekend and the festival had loads of activities for kids and adults.

It’s been a brilliant weekend at the Docklands summer festival in Dublin. Riders from all over the world gave demonstrations and we even had the Irish Prime Minister, Enda Kenny, drop down to visit! Thousands of people and lots of media attended over the two days which is a great boost to our sport. I was also delighted to win ‘Personality of the weekend’.

Comments Off on Wakeboard training & coaching at Xtreme Gene, Spain

Another amazing sunset at Xtreme Gene

Having a blast out here at Xtreme Gene in Spain both training and coaching. Pro Riders, David Coates from Ireland, and Carro Djupsjo from Sweden, are really killing it! Carro landed her first Tantrum to Blind. Unfortunately, the next day she tried a late roll to blind and took a whopper back edge and is still recovering! There are about 40 people out here from Ireland at the moment – riders and skiers so it’s a lot of fun too and the weather is amazing! Only another few days of sunshine and warm water training here!

Comments Off on Wakeboard World Championships, Busan, Korea

Having a brilliant time out here in Busan, Korea at the Wakeboard World Championships. There are over 200 athletes from 30 countries and the level of riding just gets higher each year.

The Koreans are looking after us very well and so far we have had 5 of our 7 Irish Team Riders advance to the next round. I was stoked to qualify first in my heat and big congrats also to Paul Johnston, David Coates, Lindsay Whelan and Aisling Deegan…. Details

Comments Off on 2013 Irish Wakeboard Nationals

Hey everyone,
I’m just back from an awesome weekend in Cork where the 2013 Irish Wakeboard Nationals took place. It was a bit of a different event for most of us as there was Wakeboarding, Wakeskating and Wakesurfing which worked out really welll! Details
Comments Off on Wakeboard World Cup Results – Mandurah 2013

Hi everyone,

It’s been a brilliant weekend out here in Mandurah in Western Australia at the Wakeboard World Cup. Three of us from Ireland were selected to compete, Sian Hurst, DC (David Coates) and myself. Unfortunately, none of us managed to make it through the heats but we still had a sick time out here in 30 degree heat and we celebrated Paddy’s day in the sunshine. Details

Comments Off on Xtreme Gene before World Cup

Hi everyone,

Just got home from Xtreme-gene in Spain where I spent 4 days riding to get me ready for the World Cup in Australia this weekend!
I had such an unreal time out there riding with a bunch of cool people like Andreas, DC, and Jack Hammersley! It was pretty sick riding with them as we had a good variety of riding, from myself and DC practising contest passes to Jack and Andreas doing big floaty styley tricks! Details

Comments Off on Weekend before Wakeboard World Cup in Palembang

It was the last weekend to be able to ride before the World Cup. We had a few riders still brave enough to hit the cold water in Cavan on Saturday! David Coates was just back from Spain, Carro Djupso joined us all the way from Sweden en route to the World Cup. Ashley Murray came down from Northern Ireland and of course Sian and myself from Dublin. It was so cold that the first few feet of my rope was frozen solid – more like a bar than a rope!

Then yesterday we had the AGM of our Irish Wakeboard Federation where all kinds of issues get discussed and clubs book comps for next year.

On Wednesday Sian and I fly out to Palembang in Indonesia. It’s a long long journey….. We fly Dublin to Dubai, then to Singapore and finally on to Palembang in South Sumatra. It’s 33 degrees there at the moment so that will be a nice change. Can’t wait for the last competition of the year and to see all the other riders again as everyone has been training in different countries – from Thailand to the USA.. Details

Comments Off on Wakeboarding at Xtreme Gene – October

Hi everyone,

Just back from another amazing trip to Xtreme Gene in Spain. The weather was much better than in Ireland and there were about 20 riders and skiers there which is pretty good for this time of the year as they close down soon until March. I had a great time on the water and up in all the local restaurants and bars. It was good to see DC from the Irish Team and fellow World Cup rider Carro Djupso from Sweden. Also a big thanks to Jose from Venezolion Photography for all the filming. Hopefully we’ll get to finish it next time I’m out there. Details

Comments Off on EA Wakeboard Championships Kiev

Hi everyone,

Well, I didn’t make it out of semi-finals (fell on a 7) but am so stoked that David Coates took 4th place in Finals and Sian Hurst won the Gold medal. She had a brilliant run and is the first woman ever to land a mobe in a European Championships when she stuck her Whirlybird in qualifying rounds AND Finals. So congrats to Sian! Also big congrats to fellow Monster rider, Dylan Mitchell who took bronze in the Junior Men and also to Massi Piffaretti from Italy for winning the Open Men. Details

Comments Off on EA Wakeboard Championships, Kiev – Day 1

Hi everyone,
So stoked to let you know all the Open Men on the Irish Team qualified through to Semi Finals today! Not bad for a small cold and wet island! Paul Johnston, David Coates and I all got through qualifying rounds today to make Semis on Friday. We’re all so happy. Tomorrow the girls are riding, Aisling, Lindsay and Sian, as well as Jonny Crawford in Masters so good luck to them!

Comments Off on Chill and Ride Germany – August 2012

Hi Guys,

I just arrived in Ukraine for the European Championships after spending five days in Germany at one of the sickest comps in Europe: Chill and Ride.

As you can imagine, we did lots of riding, and even more chilling!! On the Friday, we watched the Wakesurfing which was pretty cool as they all were killing it!!  Then on Saturday, after a massive party on the Friday night, the Team Challenge took place. This involves a group of people going on the one boat and riding against another boat. Fortunately our team came second which we were all so pumped about!!! YEEEEEEEE

Then on the Sunday we all got down to business. The qualifying, semis and finals were all on the one day and this meant a lot of riding for those who were to get to the finals. Unfortunately, my Irish Team mates David Coates and Paul Johnston both just missed finals which was a bummer as they could both have killed it. In the end it was Dylan Mitchell (RSA), Nikita Martianov( Rus), Sam Carne (UK), Lucas Langlois and Yann Calvez (FRA) and myself competing in Finals. The standard was mental as we were towed behind a new X Star (huge wake) and a Mastercraft X55, which also kicks up a ridiculously big wake! Details

Comments Off on Irish National Championships, Day 1

Wind, rain, cold and horrifically choppy water….. then the sun came out and the water calmed down…. a great start to our Nationals! Really happy that I qualified straight through to Finals and so stoked to see so many young kids competing and upping their game each year. Check out the photos below.

Comments Off on Wakeboarding at Xtreme Gene

Hi everyone,

I am out here in one of the best locations in the world for riding: Xtreme-Gene, near Cordoba in Spain. Since I got here 4 days ago it has been nothing but sun (40 degrees) and flat calm water. Yeah that’s “mucho mucho” hot for a fair skinned Irish kid!!!

Sunset at Xtreme Gene

When I first arrived there was a good array of riders including Dylan Mitchell from South Africa and Lucas Langlois from France, not to mention the two coaches Carro Djupso, from Sweden, and fellow Irish team rider David Coates (DC).So, as you can imagine with these riders, and the huge wake, the level of riding has been unreal and only getting better!!! Comments Off on Irish Wakeboard Team at Xtreme Gene

The Irish Team

Hey everyone,

What a great way to start 2012. Straight after Christmas most of us on the Irish team headed over to Xtreme Gene in Cordoba in Spain, which is probably the best place to ride in Europe. After a dodgy drive down from Malaga (in a Volkswagen van with the wrong gearbox??) we all managed to get a set on the water before it got dark. It was a bit warmer there than in Ireland and we even had sunshine some days. With double ejections, front edges and lots of banter, it was a great ten days. Details
